How to Make Easy Birthday Cards with One Set!

Are you trying to learn how to make easy Birthday cards? if so you are going to love this post as I am sharing with you how to make easy birthday cards using one set and the same supplies.

So let’s get started!

How to Make Easy Birthday Cards

One of the things I like to do when coming up with my cards, is to figure out the paper I want to use. For thee Birthday cards I knew I wanted to use the Artistry Blooms Designer Series Paper (DSP) a.k.a. patterned paper for these cards.  Mainly because this paper pack is full of bright colors, which would help to make cheerful cards.

After all we all want to have happy and cheerful cards to be sent to our loved ones on their special day. right?

Once you have selected the paper, then it is time to select the stamp set to use!! So for these cards I decided to use the Timeless Tulips bundle as you can color them in any color!! These flowers are so easy to incorporate with any color combo, so definitely this is one of the sets I use the most, as it is easy to use.

how to make easy birthday cards with the same supplies

Once I have selected the paper and the stamp set, then its time to select the color combination out of the patterned paper, that way I can select the card stock to use.

The Color Combination

For this part, I suggest you go thru the paper pack, and then select the sheet that you liked the most or the one you want to play with. Doing this always helps you to focus on fewer colors and then it becomes easy to pick a color combination.

You can see below the color combination I decided to use for these cards.

The next step in this process if to select sketches and start playing with them. This is where the fun starts as you can then get your creative juices going!

Sketches & Other Details

One of the things I highly suggest when trying to make your cards is to look for simple sketches. This is because it becomes easier to incorporate the paper and the stamp set with the sketch.

Birthday Card #1

how to make easy birthday cards with the same supplies

This sketch is very similar to the one I showed a couple of months ago for some Masculine Thinking of You cards. As you can see in the card I showed you in that post (card #2 sketch # 13), is that even though I used about the same sketch the cards look completely different when you compared them together. And this is what I love the most of this process. Everyone will get a different card even if they use the same sketch. So your cards continue to be unique!

If you are wondering about the two tones tulips, I encourage you to watch the video tutorial below. This is an easy technique using sponges, that I know you will enjoy trying out!

Birthday Card #2

how to make easy birthday cards with the same supplies

For this card, you can see how simple the sketch is a well, however the card looks stunning and so cheerful!! I really think that using patterned paper in your cards makes a big difference. So if you are like me and have been hoarding paper forever, I challenge you to take the leap and cut some of it! Use it in your cards, and you will see the difference it makes in your cards.

Your cards will be easier to make, as the wow factor becomes from the patterned paper!! Seriously, trust me! give it a try and you will see.

Birthday Card #3

how to make easy birthday cards with the same supplies

And this final card is as easy as the rest of the cards I showed you today. You can see that same as the others the sketch is easy to follow.  One thing I did not mentioned before is that when you picked the paper and the stamp set, it is important you also pick a few embellishments in the color combination that you picked.

Now, let me share with you a little secret. If you don’t have embellishments in the colors you are using, then pick a few in neutral colors and then color them with alcohol markers. In the cards from this post, I colored the Metallic Edge Ribbon with Melon Mambo, and you can see how well the bows look in the cards.

Fun Fold Card Class featuring the Timeless Tulips bundle

If you liked these cards and want to make even more Birthday Cards, you can check out the Timeless Tulips Card Class Tutorial in my PDF Store.

Easy Handmade Birthday Card

Blog hop banner - JOY of stamps August 2020On today’s post I will be sharing an easy Handmade Birthday card that you can make in no time.  And as you are seeing on the banner this post is part of the Joy of Stamps – Fonts-amental Blog hop.

On this blog hop we will be sharing projects with sentiments or fonts that we love! I know you will love seeing all the participating blogs as you will get lots of inspiration for your card making projects.

So make sure you visit all the blogs participating in this hop!

How to make an Easy Handmade Birthday Card

For today’s card I wanted to go with an easy Birthday handmade card mainly because we usually need Birthday cards all the time, after all we all have birthdays right?

Anyway As you can see below my card is monochromatic, which made everything even simpler! and it also makes it easy to customize it with different colors..

For instance you can make this card using the favorite color of the recipient of your card, or perhaps you want to use the birthstone color to go with the card! or you could simple do the cards in the color of card stock you have the most in your stash! so you can see where the options are limitless. 😉

Easy handmade Birthday Card to make

The sketch and other details

sketches to playYou can see on the left the sketch that I used as inspiration. This is honestly one of the things that I do the most and I strongly believe makes my card making super easy and very enjoyable.

I can come up with so many ideas for cards just by using simple sketches. So if you ever feel like you struggle with inspiration, give it a try. You will see how this helps you with ideas!

For the bottom side of the card  I used a wide brush tip water painter and just painted the lines across that section of the paper. You can see these are not perfect and not straight, so do not over think it. I think this is actually one of the things that add a little flair to the card.  Please note that this is regular whisper white card stock, not watercolor paper, in case you were wondering.

Once the strips dried, I added the lines with the alcohol marker. Again this was free hand, so they are are not straight. Please do not over think it, the faster you do them the better they look.. I promise you. 😉

If you want to see another example of making this stripy background technique, check this other card! This is another easy card, and you can see how mixing and matching with other colors make the stripes look even more interesting..

For the top of the card I added a stamped roses with Navy Blue and then added Wink of Stella to the flowers, this adds a shimmery look that we all love!! I added also the sentiment on the same color.

Finally I added rhinestones and the ribbon/bow that I had previously colored with the alcohol markers.. I love this trick as I can get embellishments in any color that I need. And if you use Stampin’ Up! blends (alcohol markers) then you will have all elements to color coordinate beautifully, as all their products color coordinate, making it even easier when it comes to color combinations, as you will have everything from ink, paper, embellishments in the same tones. Give it a try and let me know how you like it..

If you want to see all the products I used, you can click here to get the full supply list 😁

Three Beautiful Handmade cards for your friends

Want to learn how to easy make beautiful handmade cards for your friends? if so keep reading as today I will be sharing with you an easy way to make these beautiful handmade cards..

So let’s get started!!

How to make Beautiful handmade cards for your friends

If you have been following me for a while, you know I love to use a set of products to come up with cards ideas only using those elements. And it is using this concept that helped me to make these handmade cards.

You see, when you select just a few set of products, you began to focus more and then the ideas flow even better. This is because you get less distracted or overwhelmed on how to even start or what to use for your cards. In fact you kind of fuel your creativity by challenging yourself to just stick to those products and nothing more.

Beautiful Handmade cards for your friends

But first let me share with you the following process to help you create beautiful handmade cards for your friends every single time!

The Process to make Easy Handmade Cards

The following process is the one I created to help me design cards super easy!

  • Select a few products that coordinate. I would recommend at least the following
    • A stamp set or die set that can stand by itself
    • a label die set – optional
    • Designer Series Paper  a.k.a. patterned paper
    • Color coordinated cardstock
    • Embellishments – I try to pick a ribbon and maybe some sort of gems
  • Select the Color Combination you want to use
    • Pick which color you want to use for the card base and which color you wan to use as a highlight
  • Select a sketch to follow
    • Simpler sketches are usually best as these are easier to substitute with the products you have selected
  • Have fun and create your card

Below you can see more information about how the cards I am showcasing today!

The Color Combination

As usual I got inspiration from the designer series paper to get the color combination for my cards. the only ones that were not included in the DSP were the greens, however since the Peony dies had leaves I decided to pair my color combo with a soft combination of greens that I think work really nice.

Sketches and other details

Below you will see the sketch that I used for each of these cards as well as other details to make it easy for your to put together. Also below you will find the Video tutorial where you will see how you can make these cards step by step.

Handmade Card #1

sketches to play       Beautiful Handmade cards for your friends

For all my cards I actually focused on the die set rather than a stamp set. I loved the Peony dies so much, and I thought these large flowers would be perfect as the focal point for all the cards.

You could actually change this to a large stamped image, or even a large cut out image from patterned paper, for example.

Also note that in the sketch I changed the circle for the flower. Always think how you can use the sketch to fit what you want to use, like in this case I changed the shape.

Handmade Card #2

sketches to play       Beautiful Handmade cards for your friends

This second card follows as well an easy sketch and similar to the last card I changed the circle for the peony.

Also in this card,  I used the designer series paper as the background of the card. This will show you again how you can change parts of a sketch. For instance you can substitute elements on the sketch with patterned paper, or you can use embossed card stock as well. This are just a few alternatives of changes you can make to the sketches.

Handmade Card #3

sketches to play       Beautiful Handmade cards for your friends

And this final card pretty much follows the same things I discussed in the previous card details.  Like I said, once you have the sketches and the products you want to use, it comes really easy to put the cards together.. I promise you, follow the process and you will see how easy it is to make Beautiful handmade cards for your friends!

If you want additional cards for inspiration following these steps, make sure you check this post, where you can see how I created three cheerful handmade cards, or you can check this other post where I share with you how you can change the sketches and make fun folds or even a pop up card!!

The Video Tutorial

As promised you can see below the video tutorial to see how to put all these cards together!! I show how to put together those Peony flowers without any trouble.. so make sure you watch it!!

How to make handmade cards with patterned paper

Are you looking for ideas on how to make handmade cards with patterned paper? Maybe you have lots of patterned paper in your craft room that you have not had the courage to cut? or perhaps you have scraps of patterned paper left from a previous project and need ideas to use them! If any of these are you, then continue reading this post, as today I will share with you a few tips to use your patterned paper to make handmade cards!

So let’s get started!

Handmade Cards with Patterned Paper

First of all, you will need to pick a pack of patterned paper that you like a lot, and see what is that you like about it.

  • Is it the colors on it? or
  • the images on it?

This will help you define how you will use this paper. For instance, if you like the colors then you can use them as the color combination for your handmade cards. And if it is the images on it, you can even see if you can cut them out and use them as the focal point in your cards or as embellishments. This really makes it easy to incorporate the paper into your cards.

In my case, for these cards, I did not have images to cut out, however I absolutely loved the color combination on it, so I decided to use it as the color combo for my projects as you are seeing in the picture below.

how to make handmade cards using patterned paper

If you are interested in seeing examples of how to use images from the patterned paper then:

  • check this post to see how you can use the images as an embellishment for your card, or
  • this other post to see how you can use the images as the focal point

Because there wasn’t images to use in my patterned paper, I used the images from the “Celebrate Sunflowers” for my cards. So the next step after picking the paper to use, is to select the stamp set to coordinate.

If you use a suite from Stampin’ Up! this step is easy as you can select the paper and the stamp set from the same suite. In this particular case I actually decided to use a different set from a different suite.  So never think that you cannot mix and match!

The Color Combo

As mentioned before, from the patterned paper I got the inspiration for my cards which includes the colors below.  Note that the paper also had Flirty Flamingo as well, however, I did not use that one on the color combination.

When you are picking colors for your color combination, start with fewer colors and as you are designing you can add highlight colors to enhance them.. In my case I could have used a little of Flirty Flamingo.

Another thing to note, is that it is usually easier to start with fewer colors rather than with every single color in the patterned paper, and only if you need to add another color. The designing process goes much more smoother when you focus in less colors.

So just play with the colors.

Sketches and other details

Once you have selected the paper to use and the stamp set for your cards, then the next step is to use sketches! this is the best way to come up with card ideas in no time! Below I am sharing the sketches for these cards as well as other details.

Handmade Card #1

sketches to play      how to make handmade cards using patterned paper

For all the cards that I am showing in this post, I colored the sunflowers using the same colors and the same technique. If you are interested in how to color them, I added a video tutorial at the end of this post for you to see step by step.

This first card follows an easy sketch but I changed it for a fun fold.  You can see that this fun fold in particular is easy to incorporate with any sketch.

The tip on this card that I want to share with you, is that because of the way this card open and closes, it is best to glue the inside of the card first, that way you can make sure that the front covers the inside panel (which is where you would write your message)

Handmade Card #2

sketches to play      how to make handmade cards using patterned paper

This second card is also super easy to make, this would be perfect for when you have smaller left over scraps of paper! You just mat them with coordinated cardstock and glue them to your card, and voila! you have a card!!  That simple!

Also note that for all these cards I am coloring my ribbon with alcohol markers! This is a great tip to have color coordinated embellishments in any color that you need!! I love doing that.. So the key thing is to have a neutral ribbon or embellishment that you can color with the Stampin’ Blends.

A few good examples of this are:

  • Metallic Edge Ribbon or any other White or Off white ribbon
  • Clear Rhinestones
  • Clear Epoxy Droplets
  • Pearls

Always have some neutral embellishments on hand as these will be perfect for any project!!!

Handmade Cards #3

sketches to play       how to make handmade cards using patterned paper

This final card is as well a fun fold and it follows a very similar layout as the first card, the only difference on this card is the orientation of the fun fold!

Which takes me to my next tip!! Always play with the orientation of the layouts!! I promise you will get lots of new looks just by changing the orientation, in this case this fun fold opens and goes up and down, where the first card open from right side to left side!! Pretty fun huh!

The Video Tutorial

As mentioned previously, below is the video tutorial where you will be able to see how to make these cards from start to end. I share the dimensions and go step by step on how to color these sunflowers with alcohol markers as well as how to make the fun fold cards shown in this post. I also go over the inks and colors I use.

Hope you enjoy it.. and if you have any question, don’t hesitate to leave me a comment!! I will be more than happy to help you

Sponging techniques for handmade cards

Want to learn some sponging techniques for handmade cards? I thought so! This is why today I am sharing with you two techniques to add color to your handmade cards using sponges.

I will be sharing as well a few tips that will surely make these techniques even easier. But most important you need to promise you will practice them!  Cause the more you use these techniques the easier it will be and the happier you will be with the results you get in your cards!

So let’s get started!

Two Sponging Techniques for Handmade Cards

Like I mentioned at the beginning, I will be sharing two techniques for sponging. The first technique will show you how to make a nice cloudy sky with a template and sponging. And the second technique will show you how to mix colors in the background to have a two tone background.

Learn two sponging techniques for handmade cards

For these cards I used the new stamp set Ridiculously Awesome which have really big bold sentiments that will be great to showcase with the backgrounds I am making with the sponges.

As far as the sponges, you can see in the video tutorial below that I use the circle sponges from Stampin Up! and I cut them in pieces. I also attach a piece of cardstock in the color I want to use to the sponge, that way I know which color I am using for each of the sponges. Typically  you can get about 6 pieces from one sponge and the pack comes with 3 round sponges.

Details and Sketches on these cards

Handmade Card #1

sketches to play           Learn two sponging techniques for handmade cards

For the fist card I used the following color combo:

I made a cut out using the Happy dies from the “So Much Happy” Bundle and I used it as a template or stencil if you will. that way it will give me the curve edge of the clouds as I was sponging the background. On this post you can see two Birthday Cards using the same technique!

The key thing is to move the template into multiple directions and to sponge or add color right before it crosses the color on another cloud. You can see this in more detail on the video tutorial below.

Also when you are sponging, try to pick up the color from the ink pad with your sponge and then tap a scratch paper with the sponge, to then start sponging the background piece of your handmade card. I would also recommend to do this on a circular motion, and with a light hand, so that the color is smooth.

Practice is your friend!

On thing I forgot to mention is that you can play with the sentiments and add die cut letters, like I did in this case. I love this sentiment the best and I wanted to highlight the word FAITH by adding die cut letters and popping them up with the new foam adhesive sheets!  I love how this looks!!

If you are interested in learning how I made this card step by step, make sure you watch the video tutorial below!!

Handmade Card #2

sketches to play          Learn two sponging techniques for handmade cards

For this second card I use the following color combo:

I decided to use the Dandelion Wishes stamp set for the image in the background, I actually heat embossed it with white emboss powder and then add the color with the sponges. I started first with the lighter color (Pool Party) on top of the embossed image and then apply the daffodil delight.

Similarly as in the previous card you want to pick up the color from the ink pad with your sponge and take some of the color by dabbing the sponge into a scratch paper. After that you can then start applying color to the background of the card in a circular motion and with a light hand, that way you get a smooth layer of color.

Also when applying the second color, you would need to blend the area where both colors meet, that way it will have a nice transition from one to another.

Handmade Card #3

sketches to play          Learn two sponging techniques for handmade cards

For this last card the color combo I used is the following:

This card is very similar to the last card, where I heat emboss an image from the dandelion wishes stamp set and then add color on top of the emboss image with sponges. However this time I change the sketch and the color combination!!!

I love this technique a lot more as you can play with lots of color combinations, and be even more creative. For instance you can do a monochromatic background just by playing with shades of the same color.. Give it a try and I know you will enjoy it!

So just play with it and make the same cards using different color combos!! would love to see what you create with this technique!

The Video Tutorial

As usual, I used a sketch, as you know this makes the whole process even easier.
