Easy Birthday Handmade cards

If you are looking for easy Birthday handmade cards to make, then make sure you check this post, as I will be sharing with you how to make three Birthday cards with a very modern look.  so lets get started!

Easy Birthday Handmade Cards to make!

For these cards I decided to use the Broadway Birthday Bundle set from Stampin’ Up! This stamp set is not a new set and sadly it is retiring at the end of May 😕

So if you don’t have this set, make sure you add it to your collection (below you will find a link to my store where you can get it). However, you can easily substitute this set with another set that has bold letters for the sentiment or a large die cut. So no worries if you read this post and this bundle is no longer available.

Easy Birthday Handmade cards

For these cards I actually decided to use patterned paper, contrary to my typical process, I decided to show case mainly the stamp set with the coordinating dies.  so lets talk about the details of these cards.

The Color Combination

The color combination that I chose for these cards were based on bright colors and so I used:

  • Coastal Cabana
  • Flirty Flamingo
  • Pineapple Punch
  • Basic Black
  • Whisper White
  • Gold

When working with bright colors, I try to focus on mainly one color, which in this case was the Coastal Cabana, and then add highlight colors, so in this case these were Flirty Flamingo and Pineapple Punch.

The Sketches and other details

Birthday Card #1

sketches to play      Birthday handmade cards for a friend

For this first card I used one of the sentiments on the stamp set and stamp it tone on tone on the card base. This made the effect of patterned paper if you will.  and as you can see I used both of the highlight colors on the card. I use the Pineapple Punch for the little sentiment so it didn’t compete too much with the Flirty Flamingo.

As far as the sentiment, I used a gold foil paper and basic black to due cut the word “wish”, and then glue them together but I moved the gold die cut towards left, that way you can get the effect of the shadow on your word without too much fuss.

Birthday Card #2

sketches to play      Birthday handmade cards for a friend

For this second card, I used watercolor paper to make a watercolor smudge background. you can watch the video tutorial below if you want to see how I added those speckles on the background.

Same as with the last card, I did the same technique on the word die cuts, though this time I used gold glimmer paper.

Birthday Card #3

sketches to play      Birthday handmade cards for a friend

Finally for the last card, I wanted a very clean look, and in this case I only used one highlight color.  I love how the balloon on this card pop up a lot.

As far as the sentiment, I used a cool technique for embossing only half of a word, so you can see how I got the Wish stamped word in both Coastal Cabana and Gold! so make sure you check out the video tutorial to learn this technique.

The Video Tutorial

And finally as mentioned before, here is the video tutorial for these cards. you can see how each of these cards were made! I know you will see how easy these are to make!

Three Easy Mother’s Day Handmade Card Ideas to Make!

Below you will see the cards that I am featuring today. These cards uses the Timeless Tulips as well as one of my favorite designer series paper (DSP) a.k.a. patterned paper Magnolia Lane.

What I love about these cards is that you can easily make them for any occasion, you just need to change the sentiment and you are set! is that not cool?  I think these cards would be great for a thinking of you, get well or birthday cards, because who would like to get tulips in the mail? 🌷🌷🌷

how to make mother's days handmade cards

The Color Combo

As usual, I came up with the color combo of these handmade cards just by following the colors on the designer series paper. I cannot emphasize how easy this is when you use Stampin’ Up! as all their products color coordinate beautifully, therefore it is easy to put color combos and get all items on that color combination. In this case you can see how well the ribbon coordinates with the cards.

  • Petal Pink
  • Mossy Meadow
  • Whisper White

Also please note that while not in the color combo, for inks I added Terracotta Tile and Old Olive. The color combo drove my decision on cardstock and embellishments as well as the selection of the design from the patterned paper pack.

The Sketches and other details

Below you will see the specific details for each of these cards as well as the sketches, so that you can recreate these cards with any other suite you might have. Give it a try and you will see how easy is to make cards with anything you have on hand.  However if you want to recreate these cards exactly the same, make sure you see the supply list where I share with you which items I use. NOTEthe Magnolia Lane DSP is on the retired list so hurry up to get it as it might be gone pretty soon!

Mother’s Day Handmade Card #1

sketches to play     how to make mother's days handmade cards

For this first card the sketch is simple, which I truly believe helps you to customize to any suite or paper pack you might have. And if you are wondering how did I made the tulip look with two tones, you need watch the video tutorial where I go step by step. As a quick reference, I stamp the tulip in a light color and then sponge with a darker color the bottom of the tulip. In this case I use the Petal Pink for the light color and Terracotta Tile for the darker color.  TIP –  you need to have a light hand when adding the color with the sponge.

Though the color combo calls for Mossy Meadow, I used Old Olive for the stamping of the leaves for the tulip. I did this to get a better color for the tulip, as the Mossy Meadow look really dark when put together.

Mother’s Day Handmade Card #2

sketches to play     how to make mother's days handmade cards

The second card’s sketch is also simple, however, notice that I added and extra layer to the pieces, so it added a lot of pop to the designer series paper. I will be honest, I almost never do this, as I feel like it is too much paper on one single card, but it looks great as you can see. I might give it a try more frequently. 😉

Mother’s Day Handmade Card #3

sketches to play     how to make mother's days handmade cards

This final card has as well a very simple sketch! I love having simple sketches because they help you when putting cards with other suites. Same as the previous one I matted the patterned paper with cardstock. Also for this particular card, I have embossed the Whisper White cardstock to have some texture on the card, rather than a just plain white layer.  You will see this better on the video tutorial as the picture is not really showing the texture.

If you like these cards, make sure you watch the video tutorial below.

Magnolia Lane Card Class

By the way, If you like the Magnolia Lane designer series paper, then make sure you check out this card class I have available. You can get the make or take packet or the PDF Tutorial on my PDF Store or by clicking HERE.

Please note that this class is awesome as it includes SIX different cards using mainly Designer Series Paper, which means you can remake these cards with any designer series paper you want! so make sure you check the video here were you can see all the projects  😉

This class features the Timeless Tulips bundle!  and it includes 6 unique fun folds that are easy to make and follow. Once you learn how easy these are, you will be making tons of these with any other set you have.

Birthday handmade card for a friend

Blog hop - Birthday cards

Want to create an easy Birthday handmade card for a friend? Then you are in for a treat! as today the team participating on “The Joy of Sets” are sharing exclusively Birthday card ideas! so I know you will enjoy seeing all the cards we are sharing as you hop with us from blog to blog.

Birthday handmade card for a friend

The card I am sharing with you uses the Thoughtful Blooms stamp set with the coordinating flower punch. This punch will be available again next June with the release of the new catalog, in case you didn’t get it during sale-a-bration this year.

I also used the Timeless Tulips stamp set for the “Happy Birthday” sentiment, but you can use any set that has this sentiment or a similar sentiment.

I really think that this card can be customized to a lot of other occasions, and what I love the most about this card is that it’s layout is easy to use with any other paper collection you might have.

how to make an easy Birthday handmade card for a friend

The color combo

As usual I followed the color combination given on the designer series paper a.k.a. patterned paper, as I know this is an easy way to come up with colors that combine well together. This card uses the Ornate Garden designer series paper

  • Old Olive
  • Early Espresso
  • Terracotta Tile
  • Whisper White
  • Daffodil Delight

The sketch to use

I like to use sketches for my cards, and lately I feel like I am enjoying it a lot more!  I feel that having a sketch always helps you come up with ideas to recreate cards over and over using different themes or paper collections or stamp sets! Give it a try and you will see how easy this is.

Here is the sketch and the Birthday handmade card that I made using this sketch

sketches to play      how to make an easy Birthday card

I believe I have shared this, but the simpler the sketch the easier it is to come up with ideas on how to modify it! I think that sketches that have a lot of layers could make things harder. If you are just beginning to play with sketches, please start with simpler ones. Just think that you would need to use more colors or elements to substitute the layers on the sketch.

Measurements and supply list

If you are interested you can download the full supply list here

  2. Die cut the border using the Ornate Borders Dies in Early Espresso and glue it to the left edge of the card
  3. Glue the Whisper White strip next to the border and then the designer series paper following the Whisper White strip. NOTE – you will need to cut any excess of the DSP on the right side of your card
  4. Die cut the circle in Whisper White and Glue it to the front of the card
  5. Punch two leaves in Old Olive and glue it onto the circle
  6. Stamp the sentiment on the Daffodil Delight strip and punch the edge using the tailored tag punch to form the banner end
  7. Glue the sentiment onto the card front

How to make Birthday cards using one stamp set

Today I am showing you how to make birthday cards using one stamp set! After all, Birthday cards are usually the most popular card we need to make, and every month we have people in our live celebrating their birthday!

How to make Birthday cards using one stamp set!

The first think you need to do is actually selecting an stamp set that is catching your eye! the one you have been dying to use!  For me it was the Timeless Tulips! not sure if I have share this with you, but Tulips is my favorite flower! And when I saw this stamp set on the catalog, I knew I have to have it.

Then try to stay with one color combo, so the creative process is easier. If you stay with one single color combo for your projects, you don’t have to be thinking in multiple alternatives for each card.

Once the color combo is selected, then grab all your supplies in those colors. For instance patterned paper, card stock, embellishments, and any other coordinating item for the stamp set you selected.  Of course make sure that you have a Birthday sentiment to go with it, this might or might not be on the stamp set you selected.

Finally start going thru sketches, cards, or any other sources of inspiration to get ideas for the cards you want to create. Most of the times, I prefer simple sketches, as I find it easy to incorporate any stamp set that way.  If I see a finished card, then I want to recreate the same card.

You will see below the sketches and how these were incorporated in the cards I made.

Birthday card using Timeless Tulips stamp set from Stampin' Up!

The Color Combo

For thee cards I used the following colors:

  • Poppy Parade
  • Daffodil Delight
  • Old Olive
  • Basic Black
  • Whisper White

Birthday card #1

Use this sketch to create your cards  Learn how to make birthday cards using the same stamp set!

I used the following sketch to come up with the first card. As I mentioned before, I find it easier to use simple sketches to come up with ideas for cards, since it can be adapted to any stamp set you can think of. Don’t you think? 😉

The tulips on this card were done with an easy technique using two color of ink pads. Ink your stamp with the lighter color, and then using a sponge add the darker color onto your stamp, and then stamp your image. you get this nice two color effect on the tulips, making them look very realistic. 👉TIP: Make sure you clean your stamp in between each time, as you would stain your light ink pad by not cleaning before inking!

In the video tutorial below you can see how this is done in case you have any questions. Also play with different colors to see what other combinations you like.

Birthday card #2

Use this sketch to create your cards Learn how to make birthday cards using the same stamp set!

For this second card I used as well as simple sketch, however this card has a WOW factor when you open it! This is an easy to make pop-up card!! see the pictures below to see how it looks when you open this birthday card!

learn how to do this easy pop-up card    An easy pop up card!

Same as the previous card, the tulips were stamped following the same technique. For the instructions on how to make this pop-up card make sure you watch the video, as it is best you see how to put it together than me trying to explain it with words 😉

Birthday card #3

Use this sketch to create your cards Learn how to make birthday cards using the same stamp set!

Same as with the previous two cards, I used as well a simple sketch. For this card I embossed the card front using the layering leaves 3D embossing folder. I love how this adds dimension, especially when you are using mainly one color. In this case there was a lot of white when I first lay out this card, but after adding the embossing on the first layer, it really made it pop a lot!

I used poppy parade texture weave ribbon for the two lines on this sketch, but I could have used card stock instead. Always be thinking how to change elements on the sketch with embellishments, card stock or even designer series paper a.k.a. patterned paper.

If you like this way of creating cards using sketches, you might want to check this other post where I show how to make three cars using the same sketch!

How to make Birthday handmade cards using patterned paper

Hi friend! I am so glad you stopped by today to my blog as I will be sharing with you some tips to learn how to make Birthday handmade cards using patterned paper. I know you will see how easy these are to make.

Three Birthday Handmade Cards

On the picture below you can see the Three Birthday cards that I will be showing you how to make. As you can see, I am using the same paper collection.

How to make Birthday handmade cards using patterned paper

I love using the same paper collection as I get a lot of inspiration from the colors included in the paper pack, usually that is how I start designing to be honest. I usually pick a designer series paper (DSP) a.k.a. patterned paper collection and then I see which colors call my attention.

In this case, the paper collection includes cherry cobbler, petal pink, pool party, basic black, whisper white and a light silver foil. Since I loved how the petal pink, pool party and whisper white look together, I decided to go with this color combo for this set of cards.

From here, I start playing with sketches or past cards to get ideas for the layout of the card.  I usually cut a few things just to help me visualize how things look together and once I like how it looks then I cut the actual paper for the cards.

Details on the birthday handmade cards

To make easier how to make this birthday handmade cards, I added some details of each of the cards on this set.

Please note that at the end of this post there is also a video tutorial to show you how to make these birthday handmade cards step-by-step. Especially if you are a visual learner.

Birthday Handmade Card #1

How to make Birthday handmade cards using patterned paperThe first birthday handmade card uses a very simple layout as you can see.  The focal point on this card is mainly the designer series paper. I love how the whisper white frames highlighted both the larger piece and the square of DSP.

For this card I added the sentiment from the Peaceful Moments stamp set on a whisper white circle that was then layered on a larger basic black circle. Also I colored two little flowers from the Free as a Bird stamp set using the stampin’ blends a.k.a. alcohol markers and fussy cut them. I then added a champagne jewel rhinestone to the center of the flowers and added them as embellishments to the card. Finally I added a bow using the petal pink metallic edge to the card.

Birthday Handmade card #2

How to make Birthday handmade cards using patterned paper For the second Birthday handmade card, the layout is still using still a lot of the designer series paper as you can see.

The sentiment on this card is from the So Sentimental stamp set, I love the font on this sentiment. I think it goes really nice with this DSP, don’t you think?

One thing you can note, is that this time for the embellishment I fussy cut the flowers from the same DSP. I love, love, love, when I can cut images from the same patterned paper! as this coordinates perfectly with the card I am making. So one of the things I pay attention is finding paper packs where I can cut images, as then the designing of the cards is even easier!

Birthday Handmade Card #3

How to make Birthday handmade cards using patterned paper For this last birthday card I used way less DSP compared to the last two cards, however the focal point was still using elements from the DSP.

On this one card you can see that almost all layers are cardstock, however note that I embossed both cardstock layers with embossing folders! I love using the embossing folders as these add a lot of dimension.

I think this is my favorite card from this set!

So with this set of Birthday handmade cards you can see that using a designer series paper to make a set of cards makes the process super easy! You can see another example here.  On this post I show how to use the designer series paper as well as the same sketch and get a different look on your cards, I know that you will love seeing the cards on this post

Step-by-Step video tutorial

As mentioned previously, you can learn how to make these birthday handmade cards step-by-step following along this video tutorial.  You will see that these cards are super easy to make 😉

A Birthday card for a kid and some tips with your stamparatus!

Blog Hop Banner

Do you like making Birthday handmade cards for your kids? If you do, I know you will love this post, as I am sharing with you how to make a Birthday handmade card using the Birthday  Bonanza suite from Stampin’ Up!

I am also showing some tips to stamp multi-step images using a stamp positioning, in this case, the Stamparatus from Stampin’ Up!

But before we dive into the Birthday card, let me tell you that this post is part of a Blog Hop with an amazing group of fellow demonstrators around the world. I am sure you will enjoy hoping around with us while getting tons of inspiration!!!

How to make a Birthday Handmade card

As I mentioned before, I am using the Birthday Bonanza suite from Stampin’ Up!, which is a great suite full of bright colors and cute critters that will make any birthday card look adorable!  You can see below the picture of this suite! is this not the cutest suite?

Birthday Bonanza suite

Don’t get confused with the name of this suite as these little critters can be used for any occasion card! You can see this Valentine’s card using that lovely koala here.

The Birthday Bonanza suite has a great stamp set called Bonanza Buddies that include the cute little critters you see in the picture above! This stamp set coordinates with a die set, that can help you die cut not only images from the stamp set, but also images from the designer series paper!

I definitely love a die set that coordinates with the patterned paper of the suite, as this always makes it easy to make cards! not to mention that it also makes it quick! So you get a great card without consuming too much time. If you are like me, always running and busy with too many things in life, but still enjoy crafting, then you will love this suite!

Below you can see the birthday handmade card that I made with this suite!  The toucan was stamped using the Stamparatus! which is a stamp positioning tool that makes your life easy when it comes to lining up images perfectly. I am linking a quick video showing you exactly how to stamp the toucan.

learn how to make Birthday Handmade card using the Birthday Bonanza suite from Stampin' Up!

Use the Stamparatus to stamp multi-step images

As I was telling you before the Stamparatus is the perfect stamp positioning tool to help you stamp multi-step images.

You might not know what are multi-step stamps, and if that is the case let me explain more about this.

Multi-step stamps are set of images that complement each other. For instance, the focal point in my card consists of three images: the toucan, the hat and the pom-pom.

Did you notice in the Birthday card that the hat is covering part of the toucan’s head? this is making it look as if the toucan was wearing a party hat!  You can make this effect by using a technique called masking.

So if you are interested in learning both the lining of images using your stamp positioning, and the technique masking, then make sure to watch the video below!

Step-by-Step video tutorial to make a Birthday handmade card

After stamping the Toucan, then its time to put together the card. In the next video I show you how to make the Birthday handmade card step-by-step. I even throw a tip on saving cardstock by  die cutting some elements from the the cardstock that will be covered with patterned paper. Intrigued?  😉 Then  watch the video tutorial below!

All the pictures in the supply list will take you to my online store where you can purchase any of these items!
